Fightmilk single How You Move On has been streamed 40,000 times on Spotify – a huge milestone for the band from whose debut album the song is taken.
Released last November Fightmilk’s debut album Not With That Attitude followed on from a couple of EPs and has had a great response from critics and fans alike. Almost sold out in the original pink vinyl edition the achievement for a new band shouldn’t be underestimated.
Reviewing at the time Drowned in Sound said, “This is a debut album to compare with other recent premieres by the likes of Fresh or maybe Diet Cig, though at times it feels so fully-formed and self-realised it’s like they’ve skipped the pissing about involved in finding a sound during the early days of a band and skipped to just being fucking brilliant right away.”
Premiering the video for How You Move On God Is In The TV said, “Their music captures the joy, angst and humour of everyday existence.”
How You Move On is a biting take-down of the lame actions of an ex and opens the album with a blast of power pop. It also had a rather good video. On the song, Lily Rae sings about a man she was dating who was so incensed whey they split up that he got a tattoo of an ugly tree over his heart to commemorate the relationship – turns out he had a gallery of bad tattoos of previous conquests. Lily explains further; “I like to try and write songs that I’d want to sing at karaoke whilst drunk which explains the chorus. It’s entirely designed for post-breakup girls-night-out karaoke.”
As well as the milestone on the streaming Fightmilk has just announced Healey (previously of Wolf Girl) has joined the band on bass.
