As part of ongoing efforts toward delivering on their environmental commitments independent record label Reckless Yes has joined Offset Earth as a step toward making the team behind the label climate positive.
The move means:
- Offset Earth calculate the carbon footprint of the entire lives of our team
- they add in all the business travel carbon emissions (we’re pretty low on this to be fair)
- and then they more than offset this by funding world leading climate change solutions.
Each month our contribution will go toward planting at least 12 trees in the Offset Earth managed mangrove forest in Madagascar as well as supporting other environmental projects around the world. You can find out more about our trees, why this is a good climate contributor, how the trees are cared for, and who and how people are paid locally on the project here.
Sarah Lay, co-founder of Reckless Yes, said: “It’s vitally important not just to us as a business, or as a label, but as individuals that we actively work toward ways we can not just be greener in our choices for releasing music, but commit to projects which make a real positive difference to the climate.
“While we’re a small label with a team to match we still want to make the commitment – Music Declares are absolutely right there is ‘no music on a dead planet’ but we see taking these positive steps with brilliant partners is about more than just the survival of our business, it’s about facing into and being part of tackling the climate challenge in whatever ways we can.”
Joining Offset Earth follows on from ad hoc activity to contribute to climate action by the label. In January 2020 they used label profits to plant trees in Australia, and are also delivering on social commitments by using label profits to support causes such as domestic violence charity Refuge.
The social and environmental commitments are part of Reckless Yes’s aim to be a force for social good, and recognise the part they play in the music community and beyond. You can find out more about their commitments here.
