Following the release of debut EP JUNO in March 2019 Japan Review has returned with a serving of nu-gaze pop goodness in the form of single On Auto Now.
The release sees the band in a new and settled line-up and with a honing of their sound, while retaining the softness of their lo-fi pop and adding detail to the expansive soundscape they create. Here the wavering echoes of some supernatural fairground cast their spell over you as the beat ricochets, the vocal dragging you with it as it sinks under the melody.
The band has been described as like ‘TV on the Radio making a Velvet Underground record in the 21st Century’ (Traveller’s Tunes) and through reworking their initially studio based sound for a live setting have been growing an audience of fans throughout this year. Their sound is never less than ambitious in depth, and yet melody glints off the darkness like sunlight on catching the peaks of a vast ocean.
With more new music planned and a return to the live scene expected in 2020 now is the time to let yourself sit companionably with these songs, soothed yet restored by the nu-gaze vibes.
You can get debut EP JUNO on CD from Bandcamp (those joining Reckless Yes on a CD membership will receive a copy while stocks last) and you can listen to On Auto Now across digital platforms, including Bandcamp, here. If you have the means buying a digital copy of the single means a lot to the band – as a label we don’t take a share of digital income so this goes directly to supporting the band.

Join Reckless Yes to get all our 2020 releases
We’ve got a big year planned in 2020 with at least four albums, four EPs and a bushel of singles already in our schedule. There’s new music from across our roster and in the coming weeks we’ll be announcing new joiners to the Reckless Yes roster too.
A great – and cost effective – way to get this music is by joining us with a 2020 membership, which also helps us support our artists by returning more money to them as soon as possible. You get great tunes and maybe discover something new, plus a warm feeling from doing something good – win:win. You can choose whether you want to get our vinyl releases or prefer CD or digital and to make it even better we’ve teamed up with Last Night From Glasgow for a joint membership (they’ve got a huge 6 albums and 5 EPs on their slate – existing members of LNFG can upgrade their membership to add RY on even if you’ve renewed for 2020 already, just drop them a note to sort it out).
Memberships also make a great gift and at the moment you get a free gift from our back catalogue with each vinyl or CD membership. You can check them out here and we’d love to be welcoming you aboard, sending you out our music and a few treats, plus giving you discounts on bits of our back catalogue and RY merch, all while our artists benefit from being supported by us and you
