Described as ‘the indie Dolly Parton’ Piney Gir has joined the Reckless Yes roster ahead of new music in 2021.
With a long career and a deep back catalogue spanning 7 albums Piney Gir blends ’60s and alt-country influences to create beautiful melodies and lyrical explorations of the extraordinary and every day.
Get In Her Ears say her music has, “twinkling hooks and sweeping harmonies as an endearing, scuzzy energy flows” while Circuit Sweet wrote around the time of her 2019 album You Are Here, “Piney has been known to pioneer electro, alt-country, folktronic, 60’s retro-pop and krautrock, but her new material settles at angular art-pop, with deliberate spaces and spikes”.
With such a depth of releases behind her, as well as being a resident singer in Gaz Coombes band, tours with Ride and Noel Gallagher, sessions for 6Music and BBC Radio 1, collaborations galore, music featured in TV shows and films including Grey’s Anatomy and Made In Chelsea, it’s a pleasure to welcome the prodigious and prolific Piney Gir to Reckless Yes.
On joining the label Piney Gir said, “I am so excited to be joining the Reckless Yes roster, they are a proper-good grassroots indie label run by people who know their onions when it comes to music bizz stuff, but most importantly they have heart.
“I also really love the other bands on the roster, what an honour to be welcomed to the stable. I can’t wait for our new adventure to start!”
Reckless Yes co-founder Sarah Lay said, “It was a pleasure to interview Piney on the release of her last album, You Are Here, and so it is an absolute delight we now get to work with her supporting her next releases.
“She’s cooking up a concept that is a perfect fit for Reckless Yes, and the coming year, and we are hugely excited to share it with you all. In the meantime we’ll be delving into her back catalogue and trying out some Drunk Cookery from her ‘zine. We suggest you all do the same.”
Reckless Yes co-founder Pete Darrington said, “We’re delighted to be working with Piney Gir – she’s been making enchantingly gorgeous indie pop for a good while now and her talent for penning unforgettable melodies is astonishing.
“I watched her performing a live stream for Balcony Fest during the first lockdown of 2020 and was absolutely hooked in the space of half an hour. It was spellbinding – the perfect tonic for these difficult times and we just had to contact her straight away to see if she’d like to work with us on some new material and we could barely contain ourselves when she said yes.
“She’s already brimming with ideas as to what shape that is going take so we can’t wait to share what she has planned with you all.”
