London-based duo th’sheridans have signed with independent label Reckless Yes ahead of a career retrospective and new music in 2021.
Stalwarts of the DIY scene the duo – Adam Sherif and Julia Oertli – have been described by For The Rabbits as: “There’s a winning simplicity and honesty to the music th’sheridans make, it seems almost old fashioned in that sense; at a time when everything is loud and frenetic, they offer quiet contemplation, a moment away from the churn, a chance to remember it doesn’t always have to be quite so dramatic.”
On signing to the label the band said, “After more than ten years of being totally DIY, your friendly neighbourhood sheridans are absolutely delighted to have signed with Reckless Yes.
“We’re thrilled to have found a label that not only embraces what we do and wants to support us, but that we feel compatible with on a values level as well. We’re excited to get to work and to continue bringing the critical pop sass. XOXO”
Reckless Yes co-founder Sarah Lay said, “A too-often overlooked band on the DIY and indiepop scene th’sheridans have built quite the catalogue over their more than a decade together.
“With the knack for writing pan-cultural critiques from their lived experience, and making protest music danceable without diluting any anger, they are a band who should be considered as vital musically and in the messages they deliver. If you haven’t heard them, or of them, brace yourself as we’re about to change that in 2021.”
Reckless Yes co-founder Pete Darrington said, “I’m delighted to be working with th’sheridans – they’ve ploughed their own furrow as a DIY act for quite some time and that’s definitely played a pivotal role in shaping their truly unique sound.
“Their quirky but incredibly catchy songs constantly defy genre pigeonholes and the lyrics never fail to bring a smile. Every song has a wry, subtle, intelligent wit all of its own, so I’m sure everyone who hears them will fall in love with their genius as I have.”
More details will follow on their planned releases with the label in 2021. If you want to make sure you get your hands on them a label subscription is perfect.
