In amongst this dismal weather a ray of sunshine in the form of the news we’ve two new additions to the Reckless Yes roster this week: Captain Handsome and Peace Tape.
Captain Handsome
Captain Handsome – the solo project of Lily from Fightmilk – create songs which sound pretty, have both a pop and minimalist vibe, and are about the kind of stuff you lie awake thinking about for years after they have happened, curdling with embarrassment.
These are songs which are quiet, relatable and sensitive without becoming sentimental. Influenced by Dolly Parton, Kirsty MacColl, and Mitski these are observations of the minutiae of life turned into lo-fi yet gigantic pop songs; an exploration of the musically weird and navigating the strange and sometimes difficult terrain of your internal world.
On bringing Captain Handsome into the Reckless Yes fold Lily said, “I’m really excited to be taking my first tentative steps with this project alongside Reckless Yes. Pete and Sarah are some of the most kind, patient, and knowledgeable people I’ve met, and it’s clear from everything they do that they really understand and care for their artists. They’ve gone above and beyond for me so far and I can’t wait to see what we’ll do together.”
Sarah, co-founder of Reckless Yes, said, “We love working with Fightmilk and so it’s an absolute delight to get the chance to work with Lily as Captain Handsome too. These tracks resonate deeply with anyone who’s ever spent a little too long in their own head, and found both comfort and fear in that place. Brilliantly melodic and lyrically incisive we’ll be giving full details of the release soon.”
Pete, co-founder of Reckless Yes, said, “Although Lily already works with us in Fightmilk we didn’t sign Captain Handsome because of her track record; a band is the sum of its part and Lily’s solo work is a totally different animal. With this EP you should be prepared for something sparse and totally beautiful. While her savage observational millennial wit is still ever present this is also equal parts Dolly Parton, Joni Mitchell and Taylor Swift.”
Peace Tape
Peace Tape is a collection of experimental, abstract pieces of music.
The pieces vary from melodic ambience to bursts of manipulated noise, each one offering an immersive experience of different emotions through detailed free-form soundscapes.
On joining Reckless Yes with Peace Tape Chris Jones said, “I am pleased to say that Reckless Yes will be releasing the first collection of these works later on this year.”
Sarah, co-founder and Head of Creative at Reckless Yes, said, “We love it when our artists come to us and share projects they’re working on, and also the way they are thinking about the world and reflecting that creatively. When Chris sent through the Peace Tape tracks we were blown away. With as much in common with modern art as music these are immersive and intriguing pieces and we’ll be giving full details of the release soon.”
Pete, co-founder of Reckless Yes, said, “I’m really excited to be working with Peace Tape. For a while we’ve been looking to try and push the envelope and release something that’s musically outside the box and experimental, but which would stretch us as a label and helps us explore different ways of delivering that aren’t in the standard formats. This totally fits that bill and we’re looking forward to seeing where this takes us!”
