As we get towards Christmas we want to take a moment to thank all of you who have made 2018 such an amazing year for us at Reckless Yes. We’ll turn three next week and without a doubt this has been the biggest, wildest, most amazing 12 months in our short time as a record label.
We’d like to start by thanking all the artists who trusted us with their art – Grawl!x, LIINES, Mighty Kids, Fightmilk and Chorusgirl – and who made making music such a pleasure. We’ve been so pleased to see the success of these records, and these bands, and absolutely honoured to work with you all. We can’t wait for more and even more fun times with all the Reckless Yes Fam.
And we’d like to thank all of you who supported our artists (or the wider independent music community) by buying music, coming to shows, or spending your cash on merch. You make it possible to keep going in a practical sense but more than that – you give us a purpose! We want to create brilliant experiences for artists and music fans so we’re so thrilled you’re all on this ride with us.
We’d also like to shout out to the wider Reckless Yes team – our suppliers and partners who do the things we can’t (or do things we can but much better). We’ve worked with some great PRs in Hannah Gould (LIINES album campaign) and Lucy Hurst at butilikeyou (Grawl!x, Fightmilk and Chorusgirl). They’ve placed our records with publications and on air and made it all look so easy (we know it’s not).
Those publications and radio shows and social sharers all deserve a round of applause too. We know you’re not doing it for the money and you’ve probably questioned why you’re doing it at all at least once this year but we can guarantee your coverage has introduced a band to a fan who might not have found them otherwise. There’s a lot of you to mention (too many!) but we’d like to say thanks to Mari at Get In Her Ears, Sam at For The Rabbits, John Kennedy, Shell Zenner, Steve Lamacq, John Robb and Jim Sharples at Louder Than War magazine, and Lee Adcock and James Thornhill. The list could go on for ages – we’ve been blessed with so much support! Photographers too deserve a thanks – James Birtwhistle (Indiehorse), Paul Dixon, and all of you who share pics, video or thoughts after our shows or when you get a record in the post – we love all of you!
Producers and studios – we’ve worked with a few! Paul Tipler (LIINES), Keith TOTP (Fightmilk) and Snug (Grawl!x – and a go-to for a lot of the RY roster) – you’ve all been ace at making our artists sound their absolute best. Our records wouldn’t exist without DMS – they press all our sounds onto glorious coloured vinyl, offer amazing advice and customer service, and always hit our deadlines (which sometimes are ridiculously non-standard short). Cargo too have been briliant on this side with supporting us to get our music into record shops – we only do short runs but getting records onto the shelves and supporting physical stores is important to us and we couldn’t do it without them. And on the online side much kudos to Record Union who have done us a good one on customer service more than once this year!
On the live side Rough Trade Nottingham have been a huge support as we ventured out of Derby and into a new city to promote shows (because Dubrek are doing it better than we can back home). They’ve made it easy and fun to put bands on and we love our Reckless Yes takeovers – definitely more of these to come in 2019. And shout out to DHP too for their support with LIINES – seeing them open the stage at the Apollo was an amazing end to a magnificent year and we’re already excited for the headline shows next spring. A massive thanks in fact to all you promoters who have booked our bands and put yourselves out there by supporting live music.
Last but not least thanks to those who are providing pop-up spaces for us to share our wares – Nottingham Label Market and CWNine were a pleasure to attend, and our love goes to Last Night From Glasgow for selling our records at their label market north of the border.
It’s with massive hearts, bundles of gratitude and not a small amount of excitement for what comes next (we have so much to tell you in the New Year) that we say THANK YOU to you ALL. You’re making this all possible and for that we will love you, always.
Sarah and Pete
