Yeah, we know, we were much more reliable when we were on the radio and now we’re blogging we’re all over the place with turning up and tuning in on a Friday. Most weeks we’re here, sometimes we’re not.
Like last week, we were not. But in our defence we were putting out a record. This one by You Want Fox. And if you haven’t already acquired it then I think you’re on unsteady ground to judge my friend.
Anyway, let’s not quibble. We’re here now and we have this week’s recommendations – mostly enthusiastically inspired by bands we’ve had grace a local stage for us in the last few weeks. Follow us on Twitter and hashtag #LF for weekly recommendations.
Listen Friday – 17 March 2017
Mouses – Poison
You need to see this band live. And you should buy their album. Just utter brilliance from the north east duo. A fourth-wall breaking set of pure energy and uncontainable creative fury.
Seriously…see them live.
Batteries – Pigs
We’re still not over the tight-as-all-fuck set from Batteries a couple of weeks ago. Like a cat following a laser pointer our eyes were all over the place watching the frenzied playing. Massively melodic and never less than noisy, dip into either of the albums if you’re yet to get into this band.
Nine Tons – Bullpup
Another band who right cheered up a dreary winter Sunday night for us. The north east has some good stuff going on and Nine Tons is amongst it. New material on the way we hear…
Grey Hairs – Serious Business
The opener from their recent album of the same name and it’s exactly what you’d expect from the Notts band. In short…it’s ace.
Unqualified Nurse Band – White Dove
We know they are Reckless Yes alumni so we’re biased but the new double-A that Unqualified Nurse Band has done with Too Pure is brilliant. And their new material – EVEN BETTER!!! They pulled a blinder of a set for us last week with a deep psych groove creeping in to their forever rock n roll sound.
Heavy Heart – Teenage Witch
They’ve not played for us but they did support our LIINES on the London date last year. Plus they wrote, recorded and released a song every single month in 2016. Now they’re bringing them out as an LP and each of the tracks is a gorgeous alt-rock infused cloud of dreampop. Get your ears around it and fall in love with them as much as we have.
