Creating ‘intimate sonic portraiture’ Catherine Ireton has joined Reckless Yes ahead of planned releases beginning in 2022.
Lead singer on Belle and Sebastian’s 2009 album God Help The Girl Catherine creates theatre, music and has toured internationally. Her latest music is a style that she describes as Intimate Sonic Portraiture is a celebration of the smallness of things.
Her music is narrative-led intricately created worlds, she focuses on exploring ordinary and everyday things or people that we might overlook, layering everyday sounds as a tapestry upon which to place her song and voice.
On joining Reckless Yes, Catherine Ireton said, “I like to create worlds within my music to tell stories with my sounds, it’s sort of an intimate sonic portraiture. This isn’t a neatly categorizable genre of music and so it is hugely refreshing when meeting Reckless Yes, and they just got it.
“Being invited to be part of the Reckless Yes roster has been a lighthouse moment for me, like finding a home and a tribe. I’m so proud and excited to be part of this brilliant forward focused community of eclectic artists, members and music lovers.”
Reckless Yes co-founder Sarah Lay said, “We’re so pleased Catherine Ireton has joined the Reckless Yes community and can’t wait to share her music in 2022.
“Catherine finds the magic in the everyday and makes familiar objects the vessels of unusual sounds. She invites you in, as she says, to a world she has created within the music: fantastical and fascinating.”
