Making wonderfully lo-fi electronic dreampop Hearts Beating In Time – the solo project of Rebecca Theuma – has joined Reckless Yes.
Based between Malta and Berlin in Hearts Beating In Time we get echoey vocals, moving beats and layered synths to deliver hopelessly romantic lyrics against the backdrop of ‘80s influenced sounds.
Hearts Beating in Time melodiously embodies meta-modern sensibilities fuelled by a fascination with the struggle between feelings of hope and futility, the disappointment of losing love, and the highs of fleeting encounters, along with the naivety of unknowingly finding meaning in the meaningless.
On joining Reckless Yes Rebecca said: “I’m so happy to have finally found my musical family at Reckless Yes! I was overjoyed when I received an email from Sarah and Pete saying that they were interested in putting me on their roster, along with some really awesome musicians. I can’t wait to get started on releasing my music with this label and I’m super excited about what the future holds.”
The video for first single, ‘Simone’s’, premieres today on XS Noize and you can watch it here.
Reckless Yes co-founder Sarah Lay said, “In what has been such an unsettling and uncertain year it has been wonderful to have some amazing artists reach out to us with some really special releases. Among them was Hearts Beating In Time – Rebecca Theuma – whose lo-fi electronic dreampop has the exact balance of despondency and hope needed for these days we’re in.
“And while most of our artists as UK-based it’s great to add to our growing cohort of bands based outside of this increasingly small island – Rebecca is based between Malta and Berlin – and shows music is our common language and traverses borders even when we’re each finding ourselves tethered to the spot.”
Reckless Yes co-founder Pete Darrington said, “Rebecca Theuma, AKA Hearts Beating In Time, is bringing something very special to the Reckless Yes family – her rich electronic soundscapes are the perfect canvas for her heartfelt intimate vocals that make all her songs feel like the comfort blanket the third decade of the 21st century desperately needs. It’s melancholy but uplifting, introspective but ubiquitously relatable. I’m so excited you’ll be getting the chance to fall in love with Hearts Beating In Time like we did.”
‘Simone’s’ by Hearts Beating In Time will be released digitally across all platforms on Friday 30 October 2020. More music will follow in 2021.
